Pre-session Legislative Overview With Senator Kirk Watson

Senator Kirk Watson served as the Mayor of Austin from 1997-2001. Following this service he became the Chair of the Advisory Board of the Environmental Defense Fund. In addition to this, he worked diligently  as the Chair of the Greater Austin Chamber of Commerce. 

In 2006, Watson  announced his candidacy in State District 14, winning unopposed. One session following being named the magazine’s “Rookie of the Year”, Senator Watson was named to Texas Monthly’s list of the “10 Best Legislators”.  To earn these prestigious titles, Watson authored the first statewide climate change legislation, led the campaign to build the first commuter rail in Central Texas and was chairman of the 2008 Texas Democratic Party Convention.

Senator Watson graduated from Baylor University with both his Bachelors and Law Degrees.
