Lecture: "Language Matters—CLICA BRASIL: Using Technology to Teach Language and Culture in the Classroom"

Wed, March 19, 2014 | Sinclair Suite, UNB 3.128

12:00 PM - 1:00 PM

ClicaBrasil is a website developed for intermediate-level learners of Portuguese. Lessons integrate reading, writing, listening, reading comprehension, grammar, vocabulary, oral communication, and cultural activities. Videos showing Brazilians speaking about their lives, their culture, and their country enhance these activities. ClicaBrasil videos bring Brazilians from all regions and walks of life into the classroom where students can experience the language as “lived” by native speakers. Professor Vivian Flanzer, Dept. of Spanish & Portuguese, will showcase ClicaBrasil and speak about the challenges of creating the website, describe how it is being used in UT’s Portuguese courses, share the views of students who used the website, and offer insights into teaching language and culture in foreign language classrooms.
