Concert: "Danzonera SierraMadre with Patio del Danzón"

Mon, March 24, 2014 | Bates Recital Hall

7:30 PM

The Danzonera SierraMadre from Monterrey, México has been performing since 2009 and is northern Mexico’s first and most prominent danzón orchestra. Its origins are found in the Patio del Danzón music school founded by danzón enthusiasts Miguel Velasco and María Eugenia Ayala. They organized the danzonera due to the lack of a live performance ensemble of that sort in Monterrey. Since then, the Patio del Danzón and Danzonera SierraMadre have organized national danzón festivals in Monterrey, México annually.

Danzonera SierraMadre will perform with UT music students and Patio del Danzón dancers as part of the Danzón Fest 2014.  To learn more about Danzón, join us for Danzón: Cirum-Caribbean Dialogues in Music and Dance, a book presentation featuring authors Robin Moore and Alejandro Madrid.
