Performance: "12th Annual ¡A Viva Voz! Celebration"

Thu, April 3, 2014 | Benson Latin American Collection, SRH Unit 1

7:00 PM - 9:00 PM

LLILAS Benson presents the 12th annual ¡A Viva Voz! celebration of Latino/a culture. Open to the Austin community, the event features a concert by Las Cafeteras, a band famous for its energetic bilingual performances that combine Afro-Caribbean and Mexican folk music with hip-hop, dance, and a community-focused message.

Las Cafeteras fuses traditional and modern beats with timely stories from the LA streets. This alt-son group remixes traditional sounds, combining Afro-Caribbean marimbol, the jarana and requinto guitars of Mexican son jarocho, hip-hop, Native American drum and flute, and stomping zapateado dancing with uplifting English and Spanglish lyrics that tell of everyday people searching for love and fighting injustice in the concrete jungle. Learn more about Las Cafeteras.

Light refreshments served. Free and open to the public.
