The Archive of the Indigenous Languages of Latin America

AILLA

AILLA, a digital archive of recordings and texts in and about the indigenous languages of Latin America, needs your help to continue preserving the past. The only digital resource of its kind in the world, AILLA contains over 16,000 audio and video recordings of more than 250 indigenous languages.

At the heart of the collection are recordings, both audio and video, in a wide range of genres: narratives, chants, oratory, conversations, songs, and more. Many recordings are transcribed and translated into Spanish, English, or Portuguese. The archive also contains a wealth of language documentation materials: grammars, dictionaries, ethnographies, and field notes. This wonderful collection also includes teaching materials for bilingual education and language revitalization programs.

AILLA has great news to share—last spring, nearly $4,000 was raised to upgrade the technology platform.

The goal was $10,000, so $6,000 more is needed to finish out the project.
