Based on an internationally successful play of the same name, Hüdaverdi Yavuz's directorial debut Esrefpasalilar tells the story of two old friends who moved to Istanbul from one of the neighborhoods of Izmir (Esrefpasa) years ago. The new Esrefpasa neighborhood, infamous for its men's  fearless, fierce lifestyle and bad habits, begins to take a different course after a hodja, a Muslim religious teacher, is appointed to the abandoned neighborhood mosque.   

Filmed around Balat, Ayvansaray and Eyüp in İstanbul over the course of four weeks under the direction of Hüdaverdi Yavuz, known for such television series such as "Sehnaz Tango," "Kırık Hayatlar" and "Yağmurdan Sonra," the cast includes figures from the world of film and theater, such as Sinan Taymin Albayrak, Turgay Tanülkü, Burak Tarık, Hüseyin Soysalan, Sermin Hürmeriç, Deniz Özpınar, Savas Bayındır, Ali Yaylı, Serkan Öztürk, Ömer Pekin, Sibel Öztürk, Fırat Pasayiği and Vural Arısoy, and features music by Yücel Arzen.
