Arabic Language Summer Institute to Launch

Tue, January 6, 2009

The program is open to all qualified students and will feature:

Elementary, Intermediate and Advanced levels that combine training in MSA and Colloquial Arabic

Courses providing the same training as regular academic year Arabic classes at UT. (First Year, Second Year and Third Year Arabic)

Daily conversation hours devoted to developing spoken skills in Arabic

A focus on building listening and comprehension skills through an emphasis on Arabic media

A fully incorporated cultural program including lectures, films and hands-on workshops with on-site guest visits

The ten week intensive program will run from June 4th through August 14th 2009 under the direction of Dr. Mohammad Mohammad. Flagship students will be eligible for tuition scholarships, but will need to cover living expenses. Self funding students (non-Flagship students) will be pleased to note an extremely competitive cost of attendance. Further details will be a made available on the UT website.

The number of places available is limited and therefore, admission will be highly competitive. Each student must apply in order to be considered for placement within the program. Applicants must show a commitment to the study of Arabic and demonstrate a strong academic record. Applications and further information will be available online by January 31, 2009. To apply, all students must complete an application form, a statement of purpose and provide one letter of recommendation as well as an official university transcript.

Because of the intensive nature of the Institute, students will need to fully devote their time and energy to their Arabic classes in the summer.

Should you have any further questions please contact Chelsea Sypher at: utflagship@austin.utexas.edu or by phone at: (512) 471-3283. We are looking forward to working with you this summer and wish you the best of luck with your application.
