CMES Launches Summer Program in Egypt for Teachers

Thu, May 26, 2005

The group will arrive in Egypt on June 15, and will get to know their home base, Cairo, intimately over the course of the program. In addition to visiting the Pharaonic, Greco-Roman, Coptic, and Islamic-era sites in the capitol city, the group will also visit a local school, and notable institutions such as the League of Arab States and Al-Ahram newspaper. Weekend trips will take in Alexandria and the Sinai Peninsula, and a longer excursion will visit sites in Upper Egypt from Luxor to Aswan.

The 15 teacher participants were selected from a highly competitive pool of nearly 50 applicants, and represent a large geographic sampling from Texas, as well as the Washington, DC Metro area. On return to the US, each of the participants is required to disseminate the knowledge gained on the program by participating in professional development sessions and developing a curriculum project that will be posted on the CMES Outreach Web site.
