Advising

The undergraduate advisor for the Center for and Department of Middle Eastern Studies advises current and prospective majors in Islamic Studies, Middle Eastern Languages and Cultures, and Middle Eastern Studies. The undergraduate advisor removes advising bars, reviews degree audits, assists with course selection and registration, and discusses students options for study abroad, honors programs, career exploration, and other issues and opportunities related to the undergraduate programs.

During peak advising times (registration advising during fall and spring semesters), appointments are required. To make an advising appointment, please contact the advisor. Advance advising is always welcome!

You may run your own degree audit online through IDA (Interactive Degree Audit) and it is recommended that you do this each semester.

Becoming a Major in ISL, MES or MEL

To declare a major in Islamic Studies, Middle Eastern Studies or Middle Eastern Languages and Cultures, you must meet with the undergraduate advisor.

Although not strictly required, continuing majors should check with the undergraduate advisor periodically to share information on courses, discuss difficulties, obtain approvals, and to keep track of career, internship, study abroad, and honors possibilities.
