How does Dida Educational and Cultural Association overcome limitations of race, class, and gender? Through the power of the drum… Dida is a not-for-profit association in Salvador, Brazil that offers free educational activities in popular forms of art created and maintained by Africans and their descendants. The institution runs 11 performing arts courses, with percussion as the centerpiece, for 600–800 children each year.
