K-12 Programming
Hemispheres
combines the resources available at a major university with the need
for new and updated resources in the public school classroom in order
to provide innovative standards-aligned training and professional
development, develop ready-to-use curriculum materials, and provide
other resources for K-12 educators, students, and curriculum
specialists.
Below are our most popular services. If you don't see something that would benefit you, please contact us.
- Seminars & Workshops
Our workshops are designed to introduce our primary strength: background knowledge and content on the world regions that we cover. Our workshops are geared toward educators who know how to teach their students effectively, but want more background information on what to teach their students.
- Speakers Bureau
We can provide speakers for K-12 classrooms, and to community organizations and other groups in the greater Austin area. The program is designed to meet increasing interest in teaching young people about the regions we represent.
- Staff Development
Hemispheres offers professional development workshops right in your school, district, or ESC at little or no cost. We can come in for a full day or half-day and give international area content training and resource sharing.
- Lending Libraries
Each of Hemispheres' component Centers maintains a lending library of videos, curriculum units, books, artifact trunks, and other materials specifically designed for K-12 classrooms. The only cost is return postage!
- Public Lectures & Events
See our upcoming community and public event calendars.
- Newsletter
Twice a year, we distribute a free newsletter—News from Hemispheres—with short content articles and lesson plan ideas. Here you can browse the newsletter archive and sign up for our mailing list.
- E-Bulletin
Every Wednesday during the school year, we send out an E-Bulletin with information on upcoming educational, cultural, and international themed events from around the state. Sign up for our e-mail distribution list to start receiving the E-Bulletin (clicking on this link will open a new window—click on "subscribe" in the left menubar once the page has loaded).
