Bridge Across Civilizations: a 10-day tour of Turkey for K-12 educators

The Center for Middle Eastern Studies at the University of Texas at Austin, in partnership with the Institute of Interfaith Dialog, will conduct a ten-day tour of Turkey this summer designed especially for K-12 educators.

The tour is projected to run June 29-July 9, 2009.

The tour will include visits to Istanbul, Turkey’s largest city, once capital of the Byzantine and Ottoman empires; Ankara, the modern capital of the Republic of Turkey; Sanliurfa, reputed burial site of the patriarch Abraham; Antalya, on the Mediterranean coast; Konya, spiritual center of Rumi’s Sufi movement; and Izmir, Turkey’s third largest city, and gateway to the historical cities of Ephesus and Selcuk.

However, the unique opportunity that this program affords over standard package tours of Turkey and the Mediterranean will be daily visits to private homes and schools to meet "ordinary" Turkish citizens from all walks of life. You'll have the chance to meet with peers and enga
