Austin Plumbing Supply

Summer 2010 Site Review

Position: Intern
Student: Economics Senior

A day in the life of an Austin Plumbing supply intern begins with clocking in and checking in with the boss. If there are no special projects to undertake than the day usually begins with receiving the daily UPS shipments. This consists of cross checking the purchase orders off the boxes with the QuickBooks software and labeling the boxes either stock or with a particular customers name. Small stock items are put in the storeroom in the store and large stock items such as bathtubs are taken to a nearby warehouse facility via delivery truck. Special order items are marked by customer name and are either put in the storeroom to wait for customer pickup or large orders are delivered individually. When the receiving is done interns usually check on various backordered items and send customers ETA emails.

Interns are also responsible for creating sales quotes complete with photographs of products for large orders for prospective customers. These are the most common daily tasks but there are often a wide variety of other tasks that have to be done from time to time. The day of an intern usually ends with closing down and locking up.
