The Maccabim Association
Summer 2010 Site Review
Position: Resource Development Intern
Student: Plan II Honors Senior
The Maccabim Association is the charitable arm of the Maccabi Tel Aviv Football Club. Maccabim uses soccer as a tool to improve the social and educational conditions of over 4,000 children from all sectors of Israeli society. Maccabim runs 30 soccer centers and special programs for 4,000 children – fostering important life skills and character values in the youth of Israel’s future.
Maccabim is a non-profit organization and relies on support from foundations in order to run its programs. As an intern, you will play an important role in resource development or fundraising. You will get a behind-the-scenes look at the inner-workings of an international non-profit. Maccabim works in cooperation with a resource development consultant. The consultant assists non-profits with effective and efficient resource development based on years of experience and research. You will learn about the non-profit resource development process from start to finish.
Your internship responsibilities fall within three main areas: research, analysis, and writing. Interns are expected to be organized, self-motivated and hard-working. All interns should be proficient in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel.
On a daily basis interns will conduct independent research for new funds and analyze findings. Interns will initiate contact with foundations and funding sources (through phone calls and emails), and author resource development materials (including letters, presentations and grant applications). When applicable, interns will attend meetings with Maccabim’s partner organizations and donors, visit program sites, and assist with administrative tasks such as website and blog upkeep, and author thank-you notes and follow-up emails.
