The Austin Chronicle is “an independent, locally owned and operated alternative newsweekly that reflects the heart and soul of Austin, Texas.” Broadcasting to a readership of 195,000 weekly, with a combined social media reach over 75,000 and a weekly newsletter audience of nearly 32,000, interns will take part in reaching a broad local Austin audience about news, events, restaurants, music and much more.
Promotion Interns for The Austin Chronicle work closely with the Promotions Manager and “CHRON2” team members to coordinate presence at events, develop and implement marketing campaigns, and maintain online presence through social media and promotional blog. Interns attend advance movie screenings, concerts at Austin's favorite venues, advertisers’ events, SXSW and all Chronicle events to promote the event and client.
Promotions Interns should have exceptional communication abilities, social media experience and time-management skills. They can expect superior supervision and feedback from the AC staff, but should also be self-sufficient and able to accomplish tasks independently. Scheduling is flexible, but would need to be during the week.
While the “‘duct-taped’ infrastructure (in the words of Internship director) is a far cry from the corporate world, the environment is no less supportive of cultivating your passions, skills and abilities. And even though you’re more likely to catch someone in swim trunks than a suit, these people know their stuff and aren’t afraid to share their knowledge.
