CBS Television Distribution
Summer 2012 Site Review
Position: Marketing Intern
Student: Sociology Sophomore
My summer as a Marketing Intern at CBS Television Distribution has been a very exciting and educational experience for me and I look forward to sharing what I've learned with other liberal arts students and my peers. A typical day in the office begins at 9:00am. I check in with my supervisors then go to my desk, check my Linkedin, and catch up on Cynopsis media to keep updated on what’s going on in the industry. Later my co-intern and I go over our schedule for the day and prepare questions for whichever executives we plan to meet with that day. Then we spend some time working on our final project. Working on our project includes: researching statistics, working on our PowerPoint and visual aids, and preparing our script.
After lunch we answer phones, finish up our meetings, and continue working on our project. Because I intern more days than all the other interns, sometimes I am asked by different employees in the office to help out with various tasks. We also have gone on a few “field trips” during our time here. We went to the sets of “Entertainment Tonight” and “The Insider”, which were both great experiences. We also went to CBS’s international office, a taping of “Jeopardy”, and during my last week I will be attending a test shoot for CBS’s newest show “The Jeff Probes Show.”
A typical day ends at 5:30pm, but I usually end up staying later to finish up work and resolve any unfinished business with my supervisors. Being an intern has a great deal of responsibility. During a typical day I am required to do whatever my supervisors ask of me, answer phones, get mail for them, file papers and tapes, be on time and I was expected to dress appropriately. I really appreciated the opportunity to participate in this internship program and I hope to work as an intern in another division of CBS next summer.
