Key Staff

Fall 2012 Site Review

Position: Recruiting Intern
Student: Sociology Senior

My internship was with KeyStaff, a staffing agency, which has been around for about eight years.  Although it is fairly new, they have expanded their company to two other locations, one office in San Antonio and two offices in Houston. This was a great opportunity to see entrepreneurship at work because I got to view the way small businesses grow and work to implement structure to help the company reach its goals. The small size of the company allowed me to be more hands on when working with recruiters and account managers. I was able to interview, conduct testing on candidates, and meet clients. My internship ranged at about fifteen to twenty hours per week, three days a week. During my short days I would assist recruiters in the open enrollment process held every Tuesday and Thursday. That usually consisted of testing candidates and aiding them in filling out our applications. It was a great opportunity to help build my communication and speaking skills, because I had to interact with the candidates as well as explain our testing process.  On my longer days, I assisted in an array of things. I would assist in filling job orders, update and enter the correct files onto our computer system that holds all candidate information, work on resumes, and source for candidates. This was more on the recruiter side of things and it allowed me to develop and build more technical skills. This was a great opportunity to help me really understand the career path that I wanted to pursue because it allowed me to get my feet wet in a new environment that I had never thought I would be in. After my internship I am able to see what it is I plan to do in the future and what I need to do to reach my goal.
