The Khabele School
Spring 2013 Site Review
Position: Marketing & Community Relations Intern
Student: English Senior
A day in the life at The Khabele School is pretty average. Most days I spend sending emails and contacting people to receive donations or getting quotes for services that The Khabele School needs. I work Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 9am-1pm. Often, I will work after that on Fridays and I will answer emails and create forms on my computer five days a week. Since October, when I started working here, we have been preparing for our Spring Gala. Now that we hosted the gala last Friday, we are beginning to prepare for our Fall Festival that we hold in September. Our year in the marketing/finance department revolves around these two major fundraisers. Other than that, we send out press kits, place ads and facilitate operations within the school. Rarely do I do things like filing or “busy work”. The Khabele School is small enough that they integrate everyone that works there into their family. Sometimes I will do traditional intern jobs, but most of the time I am treated as if I worked there permanently and am tasked with assignments that are critical to the functioning of the school. Everyone who works here has their own job but also is willing to help out in other sections of the school. Most weeks I help in the finance department with spot-checking for enrollment or occasionally filing the bills and accounts payable that they have entered into the system. Overall I really enjoy working here. The environment is friendly and imagination and teamwork is encouraged.
