The Wine and Food Foundation of Texas
Fall 2012 Site Review
Position: Marketing & Special Events Intern
Student: French Senior
The Wine and Food Foundation of Texas is a great environment for interns looking to gain experience, insight and just have fun while working. My coworkers have been encouraging, helpful and have assured that I am getting valuable experience from my internship. I couldn’t imagine a nicer, more professional group of people to work with and learn from.
As the marketing and event planning intern, I was largely responsible for business communications to members, community partners and the general public. I created biweekly newsletters, blog posts, Facebook and Twitter updates, e-blasts and event listings on the Foundation website. This helped sharpen my business writing skills while still allowing me to have fun and be creative in my writing.
I was also able to lend a hand in organizing several Foundation events. I have helped plan several of our Wine After Work events, monthly happy hours for members hosted by a local restaurant which provides free bites of food and discounted drink prices. I also helped in organizing Big Reds & Bubbles, our biggest event this semester. For this event I created a promotional social media plan featured on both Twitter and Facebook, gathered donations for the silent auction and helped write wine description cards for the 100+ wines at the event. I have also been active in planning Somms Under Fire, which will take place in January 2013.
From this internship I have gained so much valuable work experience and business knowledge and never even felt like I was working. I have really loved working with The Wine and Food Foundation and feel like I’ve become part of the Foundation family. A business environment of amazing people doing amazing work is the best place to be, and I have found that in The Wine and Food Foundation of Texas.
