Foreign Service officers are also known as the diplomatic corps and work in over embassies or consuls across the world, representing U.S. interests, often by providing analysis of their country that could help shape policy. A substantial number of FSOs have advanced degrees in various fields. Language skills are highly valued, but knowledge of particular language is not required, as they will train you for up to seven months before sending you to your post.
For more about the Foreign Service, see the LACS handout, "So You Want to Work in…the Diplomatic Corps?".
Also check out the Diplomat-in-Residence site to connect with UT's diplomat-in-residence and visiting scholar; this person typically offices in the LBJ School of Public Affairs.
