Texas College Advising Corps - Information Session

Tue, March 22, 2011 • 5:30 PM - 6:30 PM • BUR 130

Advise TX to hire up to 56 recent UT graduates!

Are you a leader? Do you love a challenge? Are you inspired to change a student’s life forever? If you answered “yes” to these questions, then we want you! Advise TX College Advising Corps is now accepting applications from graduating UT Austin seniors to serve as full-time college advisers in high-need high schools across Texas.

Advise TX places exceptional recent college graduates from all fields of study on high school campuses to lead low-income and first-generation students to college. College advisers work alongside school staff to mentor, encourage, and assist students one-on-one as they search for colleges, complete admissions and financial aid applications, and transition from high school to higher education.

We look for individuals from diverse backgrounds who are excited to serve underrepresented students and who can work effectively with diverse groups of people. If you’re friendly, approachable, self-motivated, creative, enthusiastic, and passionate about higher education, we want you on our team.

If you graduated in December 2010 or will graduate in May 2011 from UT Austin and are interested in serving as a college adviser for one or two years, apply now through the UT Austin website: http://ipsi.utexas.edu/AdviseTX.html.

  • Priority Application Deadline: March 23, 2011
  • Final Application Deadline: April 18, 2011

Selected advisers participate in six-weeks of intensive summer training. All advisers receive a salary, health benefits, and an award to pay student loans or graduate school expenses. You’ll begin your career with valuable experience, leadership, and problem-solving skills necessary for success in any profession. Most importantly, you’ll become an integral part of a growing movement to get all Texas students on the path to college. You’ll lead the way.
