Texas Historical Commission Archeology Program Intern - Application Deadline

INTERNSHIP DESCRIPTION: The Archeology Division is an integral part of the Texas Historical Commission and is responsible for the protection, preservation, and investigation of archeological sites in state public lands or in areas subject to federally permitted or funded work. Staff archeologists maintain an ever increasing inventory of the archeological projects conducted in Texas for both state and federally regulated work. This internship presents an opportunity for students to become familiar with the duties associated with the regulation and oversight of archeological work conducted in the state by assisting as necessary with the day to day activities associated with the position. In general, interns will be expected to assist the staff archeologist in the following tasks:
1. Recording and updating archeological project data in a GIS-based database
2. Assist in background research for project reviews.
GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants should be enrolled at an institution of higher learning in an undergraduate or graduate anthropology degree program, or closely related field such as history or museum studies.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Coursework or prior experience with an emphasis on anthropology and archeology. Familiarity with GIS software is required.
