Texas Historical Commission Archeological Collections Intern - Application Deadline

INTERNSHIP DESCRIPTION: The Archeology Division of the Texas Historical Commission (THC) is currently working with the Presidio La Bahia Museum in Goliad, Texas on a project to create an interactive database which museum visitors can access via an in-house kiosk. The database format has been created and artifact images have been produced for the project. A database providing basic artifact identification and descriptions has also been produced. This internship presents an opportunity for students to become familiar with Spanish Colonial period archeological site collections, as well as develop a familiarity with creating artifact descriptions that will be accessible to a general museum audience. In general, interns will be expected to assist the Archeology Division Archeologists in the following tasks:
1. Identifying artifacts for display at the Presidio La Bahia Museum
2. Organizing artifact images in a database
3. Creating artifact descriptions suitable for a museum based audience
4. Matching artifact descriptions with artifact images in a database format
GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants should be enrolled at an institution of higher learning in an undergraduate anthropology degree program, or closely related field such as history or museum studies.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Coursework or prior experience in an archeological field or laboratory setting is preferred, though not required. Applicants should be familiar with Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel.
