AARP Texas, Highly-Customizable Communications Internship, Application Deadline, BTT Gateway Job ID 7137

Fri, June 28, 2013

Be warned: You will not hone your coffee-making skills at AARP. (In fact, our state director makes coffee for the office more often than our interns do.)

Whether you are (or want to be) a PR professional, a policy wonk, a writer, a content strategist, a video producer/editor or a community organizer, this internship could be for you. We work to provide our interns with valuable learning experiences, so this internship is highly customizable. Depending on your interests, you might make calls to media, shoot and edit videos and photos, write press releases, tweet in Spanish, create graphics for our Facebook page, interview Texans with stories to share or something completely different.

AARP's membership is age 50+, but we work on issues that matter to all Texans. Join us in the fight to protect data privacy, promote safe and accessible communities, protect consumers from predatory lending and provide Texans with access to affordable health care.

Summer interns will work at least 12 hours per week at our downtown Austin office. The internship is coordinated through the communications department of the Texas state office of AARP. Interns' work will be communications related and primarily around state and federal policy issues. The internship can be completed for academic credit or on a volunteer basis. We offer a small stipend to cover travel and parking costs. You would be expected to stay on through at least mid August.

For more information or to apply, contact Kim Loop at kloop@aarp.org or 512-480-2427. Please include your full contact information (phone and email) when emailing or leaving a voicemail. Contact deadline is 6/28/2013.
