Texas Hunger Initiative, Anti-hunger Internship, Application Deadline, BTT Gateway Job ID 7217
Wed, September 11, 2013
Looking for a way to give back to your community and join the fight against hunger? Come join us at the Texas Hunger Initiative as we work to end hunger in Austin!
The Texas Hunger Initiative (THI) is a capacity-building and collaborative project. We seek to develop and implement strategies to end hunger through policy, education, community organizing, and community development. We seek to make the state food secure by ensuring that every individual has access to three healthy meals a day, seven days a week. As a part of this mission, THI will be the lead organizer of an assessment of food access in the Travis County area for the Travis County/City of Austin's Community Health Improvement Plan as part of the Community Health Assessment/Community Health Improvement Plan (CHA/CHIP).
As a part of the team for completing this assessment, interns will be assisting THI in collecting information on access to food in Travis County. Travis County has over 150,000 food insecure residents. Through this assessment, we hope to adequately determine the capacity of current anti-hunger programs and create a gap analysis of the areas of need.
Interns will be able to put their names in a report that will be used to create a strategic plan to end hunger in the greater Austin area. Students will get valuable experience in research, community organizing, data collection and analysis, and professional development.
