Podesta Group, Government Relations Internship, Application Deadline, BTT Gateway Job ID 7803

Wed, April 30, 2014

The Podesta Group is a fast-paced and thriving Washington DC government relations and public affairs firm. With approximately 90 professionals, and more than 125 clients, the firm’s internship program provides college and graduate school students, along with recent graduates, a unique opportunity to gain practical knowledge in the fields of government relations, international affairs, public relations, including digital strategy, and/or business development and marketing. Each academic semester, including the summer, the firm hires approximately ten interns in one or more of the following sectors: International, Public Relations, Energy and Environment, Technology, Health Care, Education, Financial Services, and Business Development and Marketing. Placements in each sector are based on an applicant’s qualifications and interests.
The firm relies heavily on its interns and gives them client projects on a daily basis. Each sector is comprised of principals, senior associates, associates, junior associates and legislative and staff assistants. Sectors typically sit together as a team and interns are seated with their assigned sector, guaranteeing interaction with all members of the team.
Once assigned to a sector, interns will provide support to their team through:
• administrative tasks,
• research and writing projects,
• attending events and forums on behalf of clients, and
• producing talking points.
Tasks can range from making deliveries to Capitol Hill to monitoring and composing summary memos of congressional hearings. Additionally, interns can volunteer to help with firm events. Podesta Group interns are given a rare opportunity to learn from, and contribute to client teams managed by some of the capital’s most strategic and well-connected professionals in Washington.
Interns are selected through a highly competitive application and interview process. Successful applicants will be very strong writers. They will also have a record of involvement throughout their academic years. Successful candidates typically have had several successful internship experiences prior to coming to the Podesta Group, on Capitol Hill, in think tanks, non-profits, trade associations, in media outlets, and/or international organizations. They will be professional, mature, and get along well with others. Candidates should be able to multi-task, remain calm under pressure, and have a sense of humor.
Interested applicants are encouraged to submit their resume through our website, www.podestagroup.com, in the ‘Internship’ section. Qualified candidates will receive an email from the intern coordinator and asked to take a writing assessment. The assessment can be done electronically and takes up to two hours to complete. Firm management puts a premium on stellar writing. Based on a candidate’s writing assessment, qualified candidates will be invited to interview, either in person, or via telephone. After the interview process has concluded, complete applications are reviewed and offers extended to the selected candidates. Internships are paid and can be completed for college credit.

If you are a college student or recent graduate interested in pursuing a government relations or public relations career, we want to hear from you. Please tell us a little bit about yourself and email your resume to internship@podestagroup.com.
