AARP, Cause-Driven Communications Internship, Application Deadline, BTT Gateway Job ID 7842

Fri, January 17, 2014

The Texas state office of AARP is looking for spring interns to work at least 12 hours per week at our downtown Austin office. These are paid positions with a competitive hourly rate.

AARP's membership is aged 50+, but we work on issues that matter to all Texans. Join us in the fight to improve the lives of Texans age 50+ and their families.

Much of our work in 2014 will focus on making communities more livable, strengthening individual financial security, ensuring access to health care and preventing ID theft and fraud.

Be warned: You will not hone your coffee-making skills at AARP. (In fact, our state director makes coffee for the office more often than our interns do.)

Instead, we work with our interns to create a valuable and customized learning experience. Depending on your interests, you might make calls to media, take video and photo at events, write press releases, tweet in Spanish, interview Texans with stories to share, or do research for upcoming articles or campaigns. You're probably a strong candidate for this position if you have experience in interviewing, writing, pitching media or devising social media strategies.

The internship can be completed for academic credit (with a small stipend to cover travel and parking costs) or for an hourly wage.
