The summer On-Call System (On-Call) is a communications mechanism operated and managed by select members of the AMIGOS staff at the International Office (IO) in Houston. It functions 24 hours a day, 7 days a week during the time when the AMIGOS summer programs are active – from the date of the first Volunteer departures to Latin America in June, until the last Volunteers have returned home in August.
The On-Call System is a direct communications link between Project Staff in Latin America, the AMIGOS International Office, U.S. health professionals, Chapter Emergency Contacts (CECs), and parents/guardians of Volunteers. The International Office On-Call System receives reports from the Project Staff in Latin America and reports to parents/guardians of Volunteers in a more limited capacity (for medical emergencies, etc.).
The health and safety of AMIGOS Volunteers and Project Staff are of utmost importance therefore we are looking for individuals who will be willing to accept this challenging responsibility and bring an eagerness to get real work experience that one simply cannot find anywhere else.
-One year of college
-Basic computer and word processing proficiency
-Excellent verbal and written communication skills
-Availability between June 1-August 26, 2014 (dates are subject to change)
-International travel and cultural exchange experience
-Telephone counseling and crisis management skills
-Strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills
-Ability to handle multiple tasks and deadlines simultaneously
-Reliable attention to detail
Major Duties and Responsibilities
-Takes the lead in responding to Volunteers’ medical needs, parent/guardian inquiries, travel arrangements and other emergent situations
-Documentation and follow-up of all Volunteer-related information generated during the summer program. This includes, but is not limited to: communications with projects, International Office staff, parents/guardians and chapter personnel
-Serves as information resource and support staff-person to summer On-Call Team members
-Conducts data entry and ensures the quality of information being input into the Salesforce database by Project Staff and On-Call Team members related to all summer On-Call System communications
-Reports to the Health and Safety Coordinator
-Works directly with the On-Call System Communications Specialist
-Works closely with the summer On-Call Team (selected AMIGOS International Office staff, physicians and mental health specialists) and other staff of the AMIGOS International Office
