Description
The Austin Regional Office of Department of Commerce, Economic Development Administration is looking for a volunteer intern interested in gaining experience in office management/government/communications. The intern who fills this position can expect to learn about working in a government agency as well as gain experience in office management. It's essential that applicants to this position have excellent communication skills, demonstrate creativity, and understand the importance of attending to the details.
Responsibilities
• Assist in reports to the Agency and other data calls
• Create and update organizational tools to ensure regulatory compliance by the regional office
• Conduct research into various economic development issues in the region 
• Prepare materials to aid in the review of economic development grant applications 
• Create and update databases
• Other duties as assigned
In addition, there will be periodic opportunities to connect with economic development professionals through brown bag events, site visits, and informational webinars.

Requirements
Students applying for this internship must have strong organizational and communication skills. Applicants should also be creative thinkers with the ability to take initiative on evolving projects. Only applicants proficient with Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications should apply. Please note that this internship is only open to current students; students graduating in May 2014 are not eligible. This is an unpaid internship; we are happy to work with students who would like to use opportunity to earn course credit.
