Thu, May 1, 2014

The Volunteer/Housing Coordinator is a new position at RST that balances volunteer management/outreach with the responsibility of finding housing for all newly arriving refugees. This intern position can start immediately. Although you will be in an international work environment foreign language proficiency is not necessarily required. An intern for this position will be unpaid and will need to demonstrate flexibility and high energy as he/she will be presented with a number of diverse tasks on a daily basis:

- Developing and coordinating volunteer appreciation

- On-going coordination with case managers

The Volunteer/Housing Coordinator position will also have a specific initiative focus: "RST Partnership Outreach". A Partnership or Co-sponsorship is a next-level commitment of volunteering that involves usually a faith-based group assisting a newly arrived refugee family for a number of months. This Partner or Co-sponsor provides a refugee family with a unique system of community support that is unmatched with any other volunteer scenario proving to be highly beneficial in facilitating the integration process.

While RST has pre-established relationships with existing members of the community that have previously participated in this program, there is a large amount of room to seek out new candidates throughout the Austin community. This project will prove to provide consistent direction during the duration of the intern position. Below is a list of responsibilities that are specific to the RST Partnership Outreach initiative:

- Thorough training about RST and the Partnership Opportunity

- On- going correspondence with pre-established groups of the community

- Seeking out and fostering relationships with new prospective RST Partners within the community

- Presenting in front of new prospective RST partners

- Utilize software such as "SimpleMind" and create a developing map of RST’s network of affiliated community groups

As an intern for RST’s Volunteer/Housing Coordinator you will gain a substantial amount of experience working with displaced persons and the refugee resettlement system as a whole. Because the Volunteer/Housing Coordinator position is still new to the agency there is a lot of room for creative growth, a perfect opportunity for any intern looking to leave their mark and make a difference.

Requirements

- A minimum of 20 hours a week is required

- A marketing background is not necessary, but would definitely be applicable
