Writers in the Schools, Summer Workshop Teaching Assistants, Application Deadline, BTT Gateway Job ID 8287

WITS is looking for interns to serve as summer workshop teaching assistants. Interns will work in a variety of areas, gaining experience in creative writing instruction, early childhood education, non-profit administration, and/or arts education. Internships also serve as networking opportunities to meet colleagues in education, arts education, and creative writing fields. Upon successful completion of the Internship, WITS will serve as a reference and will provide letters of recommendation. 

Each summer, Writers in the Schools and Rice University's School Literacy and Culture sponsor Creative Writing Camp. More than 1,300 children in grades K-12 participate in the workshops, which provide a supportive environment where children engage in writing stories, poetry, essays, and plays. The internships (part-time, unpaid) will begin June 2, 2014 and end June 27, 2014. 

Internship Description/Duties: 
*Assist in creative writing classrooms 
*Design and deliver lessons 
*Assist younger children with dictation 
*Assist setting up arts/crafts projects 
*Assist in anthology preparation 
*Observe classroom teaching 

Applicants must be enrolled in a college or university and be 18 years of age or older.
