Election Criteria

Alpha of Texas Chapter elects students pursuing the B.A. degree granted by the Colleges of Liberal Arts, Natural Sciences and the Jackson School of Geosciences, and by the College of Fine Arts in Art History, Theatre and Dance, and Music; and B.S. degrees in Astronomy, Biology, Biochemistry, Chemistry, Computer Sciences, Geological Sciences, Mathematics, Microbiology, Physics, and Psychology.
Four elections are held each year in January, April, June and November. Election is based on all graded work completed in residence at UT Austin. Grades from transfer work, credit by examination, extension and correspondence courses are not included in determining the GPA.
Early Election (Prior to Candidacy for Graduation)
The student must have earned, at the time of the election, at least 60 hours of coursework at the University of Texas at Austin. The student must have earned a University of Texas at Austin GPA of at least 3.90.
Election of Graduates and Candidates for Graduation
The student who does all of his/her work at UT Austin or who transfers fewer than 30 semester hours to UT must have a University of Texas at Austin GPA of 3.70.
The student who transfers more than 30 hours to UT Austin must have completed at least 60 hours of coursework in residency at the University of Texas at Austin and must have earned a UT-Austin GPA of at least 3.75. Students also must complete at least 60 hours of residency at UT. Courses in which students receive a grade of CR will count toward UT residency. Extension, correspondence and credit by examination courses do not count for residency, nor for the purposes of computing GPA.
The student who does not meet the election criteria as a degree candidate may be elected, if eligible, at the next election following graduation.
