Meet the professors

Jamie Pennebaker

Jamie Pennebaker is a Professor and Department Chair of Psychology at the University of Texas at Austin, and an internationally recognized social scientist. His research explores natural language use, group dynamics, and personality; his earlier work focused on the healing power of expressive writing. He is the author or editor of almost 300 articles and 12 books, including The Secret Life of Pronouns: What our Words Say About Us

Dr. Pennebaker is the recipient of numerous teaching and research honors, including:

  • Regents Centennial Liberal Arts Professor
  • Member, the Academy of Distinguished Teachers
  • ISI HighlyCited.com selection for being among the most cited researchers in Psychology/Psychiatry

Sam Gosling

Sam Gosling is a Professor of Psychology at the University of Texas at Austin. His research focuses on social perception, animal personality and social behaviors, and the history of psychology. His work has been widely covered by the media, including the New York Times, NPR, and "Good Morning America"; his recent book is Snoop: What your stuff says about you.

Dr. Gosling is the recipient of many awards and distinctions, including:

  • American Psychological Association's Distinguished Scientific Award for Early Career Contribution
  • President's Associates Teaching Excellence Award from the University of Texas at Austin
