PILLS PROFITS PROTEST: CHRONICLE OF THE GLOBAL AIDS MOVEMENT examines AIDS through a lens of poverty, socioeconomic injustice and human rights. At the heart of this documentary is a thorny question: Can the world afford universal HIV treatment? At what cost? What will be the global cost if we fail to treat and save 40 million people now?

Ms. Avirgan received a B.A. in Latin American Studies/Plan II from the University of Texas at Austin, was a Fulbright Scholar in Bahia, Brazil, and is currently pursuing a PhD in Anthropology at New York University. In this afternoon talk with honors students, Avirgnan will discuss the filmmaking process and the issues of global AIDS treatment. Her film will be screened later that evening at 7PM in the Avaya Auditorium in the ACES building.
