Will Bibee (Plan II, '09) Receives a Jacob K. Javits Scholarship

William Bibee, a Hebrew Studies graduate student, received a Jacob K. Javits Fellowship, a multi-year award funded by the U.S. Department of Education. The fellowship will support his research in Biblical Hebrew and Semitic languages.

Bibee, an Austin native who earned his undergraduate degree in Classics and Plan II Honors in 2009, specializes in religious rituals, Mediterranean languages and spice trade. In 2004, he earned the prestigious DAAD scholarship, which enabled him to study abroad in Germany.

The Javits is a Department of Education fellowship for students of the arts, humanities and social sciences who demonstrate superior academic ability and achievement, exceptional promise, and financial need to undertake graduate study.  Jacob K. Javits Fellowships cover tuition and fees and provide up to $30,000 a year for living expenses. Fellows are selected on the basis of financial need and superior academic ability in selected fields of arts, humanities and social sciences.
