* Please note security information below.
Plan II Commencement Convocation Speaker: Joe Bailey, Jr.
Joe received both his BA and JD from the University of Texas at Austin, where his thesis on jazz earned him induction into Phi Beta Kappa, and his work as a postdoctoral fellow at UT Law in 2008-09 provided guidance to the Austin music community. Joe’s writing has been featured in Golf Journal and the Journal of Texas Music History Currently a research fellow at the UT Law Rapaport Center for Human Rights and Justice, Joe will begin offering a course "Documentary & Civil Society" to Plan II Juniors in fall 2013.
Student Speaker: Natalie San Luis
Natalie San Luis is an Austin native and a lifelong Longhorn. As an incoming first-year student, Natalie was recognized as a Dedman Distinguished Scholar. The Dedman Scholarship provided most of the cost of Natalie's undergraduate education.
Natalie enjoys reading feminist books, eating food, and drinking beer. She feels most at home with an open Word document and a cup of coffee. She feels most out of place among people who love dogs. In addition to Plan II Honors, Natalie studied English and Women's and Gender Studies. When she wasn't in class or abusing Plan II printing privileges, Natalie spent her time at UT as a consultant at the Undergraduate Writing Center, as a blog and web content writer for a marketing company, and as a columnist for The Daily Texan. She recently finished her honors thesis on emblems of wealth in hip hop music. After graduation, Natalie plans to finish Infinite Jest, learn how to code, and write.

Ticket information for Plan II Honors Convocation:
Graduating Plan II Honors seniors do NOT need a ticket for the Plan II Honors Graduation Convocation.
All other guests must have a ticket to enter the Hogg Memorial Auditorium. Disregard ''balcony'' or ''orchestra'' designation on tickets: THERE IS NO RESERVED GUEST SEATING. Seating is ''first-come, first-seated.''
Beginning on MONDAY, APRIL 22, each graduating senior may pick up SIX (6) tickets for family and guests, from MONDAY, APRIL 22 THROUGH FRIDAY, MAY 3, at the Plan II Honors Program office front desk.
Each senior will be asked to sign for the number of tickets he/she picks up.
Tickets will NOT be reserved for seniors who do not pick up tickets on or before the May 3, 2013 deadline.
Because we will not have more tickets than available seats, we hope seniors will NOT pick up more tickets than they expect to use. Please do NO pick up six tickets if you know you will only have 3, 4 or 5 guests!
On Monday, MAY 6 through May 17, all remaining Plan II Honors Graduation Convocation tickets will be released on a ''first-come, first-served'' basis to those seniors who expect more than 6 guests. If you show up and tickets are available, you can get them. If you show up late and they are gone....that’s that.
- Disregard “balcony'' or “orchestra'' designation on tickets.
- THERE IS NO RESERVED GUEST SEATING.
- Seating is ''first-come, first-seated.''
- One guest may not come early and “hold” seats for the rest of the party.

NOTA BENE: Graduating seniors who walk in the evening University-wide ceremony on Saturday night DO need a ticket.
SENIORS MUST ARRIVE at FAC 21 at 8:00 am (EIGHT O'CLOCK IN THE MORNING!) on Saturday, May 18, 2013.
FAC 21 is the auditorium at ground level on the Texas Union side of the Flawn Academic Center. You may enter through the glass doors off the Union patio (across from Wendy's) or from the 1st floor lobby of the FAC (at entrance to Undergraduate Library) go down the stairs at the east end (Union-side end) of the lobby.
Give your family/guests their tickets BEFORE SATURDAY! You will not be with them for at least one hour prior to the ceremony.

Parking & Guest Drop-Off:
The most convenient parking for the Plan II Graduation Convocation should be readily available in UT Parking Garage #2 on San Antonio Street (one block west of Guadalupe Street) between 24th Street and 25th Street. On May 18 no permits are required and no charges will be incurred at University garages.
Guest drop-off for seniors and those with disabilites is possible at the front door of Hogg Memorial Auditorium. There is very limited disabled parking at Hogg Auditorium on Saturday, May 22. You must mention ''Plan II Honors commencement at Hogg Auditorium'' to the guard to be allowed entrance to the inner campus area.

As we prepare for Commencement, I want to let you know about an important change related to security this year.
Because of heightened security concerns after recent national events, additional safety procedures will be in place for upcoming Commencement ceremonies at The University of Texas at Austin. I hope you understand that the safety of our visitors and community is our highest concern and we appreciate your help with this.
Backpacks, tote bags or any bags larger than 12 inches in any dimension will not be allowed into any of the Commencement venues. This applies to college, school and departmental ceremonies as well as the university-wide Commencement ceremony at the Tower. The current policy prohibiting coolers, picnic baskets, lawn chairs and large strollers also remains in effect.
In addition, all other bags, including purses, camera cases and diaper bags will be searched by security officers before visitors are permitted to enter the South, Main, East and West Malls for the University-wide ceremony. These smaller bags are also subject to search at the college, school and departmental ceremonies.
We strongly urge all attendees not to bring bags to any of the ceremonies unless they are absolutely necessary.
Those visitors bringing smaller bags should expect delays in order to enter the venue and those with the prohibited larger bags will be turned away. Please plan accordingly and do not bring any packages that cannot be opened or inspected.
These procedures should ensure that our Commencement ceremonies run smoothly and are memorable milestones for all of our graduates and their families. Thanks for your cooperation.
