The $30 fee covers transportation, dinner and supplies.
- Encouraged: Comfortable, casual clothes. Shoes or sandals. Bathing suit & towel. Bug Spray. Your game face.
- Prohibited: Alcoholic beverages, any other illicit substances, money or valuables (there are no lockers).
- Buffet dinner featuring Texas-style barbecue and vegetarian/vegan options.
Cancellations and refunds: Cancel by Friday, September 4th. Sorry, no refunds after this date.
It's quite a bargain at $60 ($30 for the Getaway and $30 for a LIFETIME membership in the Plan II Students Association. Mail in the form(s) and check to the Plan II Honors office or bring the form and check (or cash) with you to Orientation.
What is P2SA?
The Plan II Students Association (P2SA) is the umbrella organization for all Plan II student groups. P2SA uses the ONE-TIME $30 LIFETIME membership fees collected from entering Plan II first-year students to fund Plan II student organizations. P2SA maintains communication between Plan II students and Plan II student organizations. The group is responsible for many social and academic events throughout the year, including the Freshman Getaway, Freshmen Voltaire's Coffees, Winter and Spring Voltaire's and Voltaire's Cinemas and the Mr. Plan II pageant.
What is Freshman Convocation?
Convocation is a required event for all Plan II Honors First Year students. The Plan II Director, Professor Michael Stoff, special guest speakers and Plan II Students Association co-presidents address the students and welcome everyone to Plan II Honors. Representatives from all the Plan II Honors student organizations (from the Broccoli Project drama group to the Undecided news blog) will be there to help you get involved and busy.
The Convocation begins at 7:00 pm. Most World Literature cohorts will have dinner together prior to Convocation.
Students are excused only for illness, scheduled classes or labs or for Texas Exes scholarship dinners.
What are Voltaire's Coffees?
At the beginning of each Fall semester, freshmen and Peer Advisors meet in small, informal book discussions with some of the most acclaimed professors at UT—a part of a Plan II tradition called "Voltaire's Coffees."
The Voltaire's reading lists are posted on the Plan II website for the incoming fall first-year students. sometime in June. Plan II first-years are encourage to choose one or more books to read. The registratin for the VCs usually begins in late July.
Plan II students in the P2SA choose the sponsoring professors, who in turn choose the books to discuss. The P2SA co-Academic Chairs handle the scheduling and registration for the VCs. The result is a delightful mix of books, ranging from the sublime to the entertaining, covering all areas of study, and a discussion that promises to be illuminating. If the book listed has a translation, please buy the one specified, as different versions can give different impressions. The ISBN (International Standard Book Number) is noted for recommended editions. Where no ISBN is noted, choose among the most readily-available editions.
The VC's will occur during the first few weeks of classes each semester; a few of them will meet before classes even begin.
