The Secondary School Teacher Preparation Program for Liberal Arts Majors
UTeach-Liberal Arts represents a collaboration between UT-Austin's Colleges of Liberal Arts and Education to transform secondary school teacher certification from the ground up. Our students benefit from an innovative program whose design is based on the work of a task force comprised of public school teachers, recent graduates working as teachers, and UT-Austin faculty. What's more, program designers surveyed and interviewed teachers and experts from across the state to answer this simple question: what best prepares an undergraduate to teach English, Social Studies, or a language other than English in middle and high schools today? UTeach-Liberal Arts puts their collective wisdom into practice.
We offer secondary certification (high school and middle grades) in the following disciplines:
- English
- History
- Languages Other Than English (Spanish, Latin, German, French, Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, and Russian)
- Social Studies (Economics, Government, History, and Geography)

Current News
Spanish Screening Procedure (SSP) for Summer 2008
This is for Spanish-LOTE students only. The SSP test date for Summer 2008 is AUGUST 25TH. All Spanish-LOTE students who have not yet made a score of 7 or 8 on the SSP are encouraged to sign up for the August 25th test.
*Students who plan to take UTL 202 or UTL 303/EDC 370S in the fall and who did not take the SSP this past spring are required to take the SSP in August.
