Test Scores and Deadlines
- Either SAT or ACT scores are required to complete an application. An applicant does not have to submit scores from both tests. Simply taking both tests provides no additional benefits. Plan II does not have a preference for either test over the other.
- SAT and/or ACT test scores must be officially/electronically reported to the University of Texas Office of Admissions by the testing agency. Scores that are reflected on high school transcripts will NOT fulfill application requirements.
- If you’re applying for admission for fall 2010, be sure to take the SAT no later than November 2009 or the ACT no later than October 2009 to make certain that your scores arrive at UT by the December 15, 2009, deadline.
- Test scores must be sent electronically by the testing agency to the University of Texas and must arrive on or before the deadline. Test scores noted on high school transcripts will not be considered. Use the following codes: SAT code 6882; ACT code 4240 when submitting scores to UT Austin.
Test Prep Review service offers on-line SAT practice tests for no charge.
Online ACT practice tests are also available.
AP and SAT II Tests
SAT II and Advanced Placement (AP) test scores are NOT required by either The University of Texas at Austin or by Plan II Honors for an admission decision. Tests may be required after admission for course placement purposes.
The Cockrell School of Engineering requires evidence of math readiness. Most applicants fulfill this through the SAT II math subject test.
The College of Natural Science will require all admitted students to take the ALEKS test. (This may also be the test used by the Cockrell School for 2010 admitted engineering majors.)
Plan II applicants should also remember that although they are not required, high test scores on AP exams (5's) or SAT II tests (750+) will certainly enhance an application to Plan II Honors. Almost all SAT II and AP tests can earn credit hours. These credits often fulfill general education or college requirements and count toward the minimum number of hours required to graduate from the University. In only a very few cases, however, are credits received through tests accepted in lieu of specific Plan II core requirements.
The SAT II scores will not be available in time and so cannot affect your admission decision if you complete your application by November 1. For those applying to meet the November 1 priority deadline, the Plan II admissions committee will not wait for SAT II scores.
