Information for Visitors Coming from Outside Austin
Transportation from the airport
It's an easy drive from the airport to campus if you rent a car. It's only about 20 minutes from the airport to campus if it's not a peak traffic time. Cabs and the SuperShuttle (reasonable and reliable) go to and from the airport.
It's nice if you don’t need to worry about a renting car or parking around campus. Parking around campus is much improved from the old days, but the garage costs can add up. The large hotels, such as the Doubletree, have shuttles to and from the airport, but if you choose a B&B, you will need to rent a car to get to and from the airport and around town.
Remember though, if you're carrying luggage, parts of campus are hilly. And, although our winters are generally quite mild, temperatures in May through September are in the 90s (if we're lucky) and often higher. This can also be true of April and October.
If you are a student traveling alone and coming straight to campus from the airport, the easiest and cheapest way is the Capital Metro Airport Flyer 100. It departs from the airport's lower level, close to baggage claim, and has just three stops before it stops at Dean Keeton Ave (26th Street) and Speedway on campus. It also stops at 21st Street and San Jacinto, at the TexasExes Alumni Center, across the street from the DKR Memorial Stadium.
See: weekday inbound schedule; weekday airport bound schedule; PDF maps and schedules. The Flyer fare is $1.00 per person each way. (This is a fairly handy, although rudimentary, map even if you have a car and don't wish to use the shuttle service.)
