Plan II Honors Application Process in Brief
- Every Plan II applicant must choose the College of Liberal of Arts as
one of the two college choices on ApplyTexas. If
choosing a second college, in addition to
the College of Liberal Arts (such as the Red McCombs School of Busines, College
of Communication, the Cockrell School of Engineering or the College of Fine
Arts), put the other college in the "first"
position. REALLY! Plan II doesn't care if Plan II is noted as first or second.
The other colleges do. A lot. Really.
If you don't put Communication, Red McCombs School of Business, Fine Arts or Engineering in the first spot, you almost definitely won't be admitted and you almost certainly won't be considered for the college scholarships.
To be considered for admission to the Department of Art and Art History (art history, pre-design, studio art, and visual art studies/teacher certification), the applicant must indicate a major in this department as the first choice. The College of Fine Arts (CFA) will not schedule auditions for prospective music majors who do not put CFA in the "first" college choice spot.
- Toward the end of the ApplyTexas application,
under "saved
questions," the applicant
will see a link for "freshman honors program." Follow the link,
and respond "YES" when
the application asks if the applicant is "interested in applying to
an honors program?" Within 24 to 48 hours
of submission of ApplyTexas, the applicant will
receive a "thank you for applying to the University of Texas at Austin" email.
At that point, the applicant may access the on-line
honors application through
the STATUS
CHECK or BeALonghorn.
Read all the Plan II application instructions and requirements before completing.
- NOTE BEFORE SUBMITTING APPLYTEXAS: The honors program
to which the applicant can apply will have been determined by the colleges
the applicant noted at the beginning of ApplyTexas.
If the applicant did not note the College of Liberal Arts as one of the college
choices, the applicant will not have the option of choosing Plan II Honors
as for application on the on-line honors application.
- PRINT AND KEEP COPIES OF EVERY DOCUMENT SUBMITTED AND EVERY PAGE OF APPLYTEXAS.org AS YOU COMPLETE AND SUBMIT PAGES AND DOCUMENTS.

Do NOT send any documents or materials directly to Plan II Honors. All application materials go directly to the UT Office of Admission.
- Deadline for applying to UT Austin and to the Plan II Honors
Program for freshman admission in the fall 2009 semester is January
15, with no exceptions. (THE FALL 2010 application deadline
will be December 15 and the Fall 2011 application deadline will be December
1.)
- Applicants must complete AND submit the ApplyTexas.org application, INCLUDING
THE TWO ESSAYS, before gaining access to the on-line honors application,
the UT housing application and the scholarship application. Don’t
procrastinate. Don’t spend months rewriting essays--there is
little to gain after the second or third draft, REMEMBER TO HIT THE SUBMIT
BUTTON.
- It’s imperative to recognize that the deadline is NOT
a “postmarked date.” All documents, the
electronic recommendation form, transcripts, TEST SCORES (officially,
electronically reported from the TESTING AGENCY, not photocopied on HS
transcripts) must be AT THE UNIVERISTY’S OFFICE OF ADMISSIONS on
that date....not “in the mail.”
- SAT and ACT test scores must be officially/electronically reported to the
University of Texas Office of Admissions by the testing agency. Scores
that are reflected on high school transcripts will NOT fulfill application
requirements.
- The last SAT test for which the scores can be reported
on time for the November 1 Early Consideration deadline is the October 4,
2008 testing date. The last SAT test for which the scores can be reported
on time for the January 15, 2009 Plan II and University of Texas at Austin
FINAL APPLICATION DEADLINE is the December 6, 2008 test.
- ACT scores from the test date of October 25, 2008 will need Priority Reporting
($13.50 extra) to make it to UT for the Plan II Honors November 1 Early Consideration
deadline. The December 13 test date is the last ACT testing date for
which scores will be reported in time to meet the January 15, 2009 Plan II
and University of Texas at Austin FINAL APPLICATION DEADLINE
- Plan II Honors recommends that all applicants apply by DECEMBER
15, 2008 or earlier. If there are any problems with
your application (missing documents, especially required essays and the teacher
recommendation forms are the most common) we have time to help you complete
your application before the deadline. Remember, with the new January
15 application deadline, there will be a big two-week gap where most high
schools will be closed for winter break as will most offices on the UT
campus. It will be difficult (perhaps impossible) for applicants
to request recommendations or transcripts during that time.
- Applying late in the application cycle (after January
1) may adversely affect an applicant’s likelihood
of admission. Remember, we do “rolling” admissions. There
are fewer spots available as we move closer to the deadline, because Plan
II will continuously offer admission from December 15 on-ward. Competition
will be stiffer as fewer spots are available. And, you are likely receive
your admission status notification later if you apply later.
- Two essays total are required to apply to UT. The same two essays, Essay A and Essay B, fulfill Plan II Honors essay requirements and UT scholarship application requirements.
- Plan II does not admit freshman to spring or summer semesters.
- Interviews are not offered as part of the Plan II Honors application
process.
- PRINT AND KEEP COPIES OF EVERY DOCUMENT SUBMITTED AND EVERY PAGE OF APPLYTEXAS.org AS YOU COMPLETE AND SUBMIT PAGES AND DOCUMENTS.
- MOST IMPORTANTLY: USE THE ON-LINE STATUS CHECK WEBSITE: https://utdirect.utexas.edu/admissions/status_check.WBX
-Every applicant is responsible for checking the status of his/her own application documents and application status.
