Harmonious Connections features musical compositions commissioned for select works of art in the Blanton Museum. These ekphrastic pieces are written as responses to, or depictions of, thematic and visual elements in these artworks, but also stand alone as individual works of art. These compositions create a living conversation between the visual and the aural—illustrating that various artistic mediums do not exist in a vacuum, but interact with each other. Discussion of these pieces will provide insight into the inherent fluidity existing between art, music, and all other mediums of expression.

Patty's Harmonious Connection Tours at 5:00 pm and 7:00 pm

Patty Huang is a junior in the Plan II/Advertising departments at UT, as well as an intern at the Blanton Museum of Art. As a musician and aspiring advertising creative, her passion for investigating the aesthetic experience led to the
development of this project in early 2011. She hopes the pairing of musical compositions with visual art will heighten the visitor experience at the Blanton, as well as further her academic goals. Patty would like to thank and acknowledge the talented composers whose passion and hard work generated this project.

Patty designed a guided tour around the musical compositions she commissioned for her project, and will present these tours as part of the Blanton’s monthly Third Thursday event tomorrow evening.  Even more exciting, two of the composers may be in attendance at the tours, at 5PM and 7PM!

We have promoted this event around campus, in particular to the Plan II program and their monthly newsletter, and are hoping for a nice turnout.  I have attached a copy of the Third Thursday flyer, which highlights the other student-focused events being offered throughout the night (UT-themed trivia, a special student screening of the El Anatsui documentary Fold Crumple Crush, collaborative art making project), as well as a copy of the program that will accompany Patty’s tour.
