Seymour M. Hersh wrote his first piece for The New Yorker in 1971 and has been a regular contributor to the magazine since 1993. His journalism and publishing awards include a Pulitzer Prize, five George Polk Awards, two National Magazine Awards, and more than a dozen other prizes for investigative reporting. As a staff writer, Hersh won a National Magazine Award for Public Interest for his 2003 articles “Lunch with the Chairman,” “Selective Intelligence,” and “The Stovepipe.” In 2004, Hersh exposed the Abu Ghraib prison scandal in a series of pieces in the magazine; in 2005, he again received a National Magazine Award for Public Interest, an Overseas Press Club award, the National Press Foundation’s Kiplinger Distinguished Contributions to Journalism award, and his fifth George Polk Award, making him that award’s most honored laureate.
The Julius and Suzan Glickman Plan II Lectureship in Liberal Arts
Julius Glickman, a Plan II Honors graduate, received his BA from the University of Texas at Austin in 1962 and his LLB from the University of Texas School of Law in 1966. As a UT student, Mr. Glickman was student body president ('62-'63), outstanding student and an active member of the Friars, Silver Spurs and the Tejas Club. His devotion to the University has continued with past appointments to the Committee of 125, Chair-Elect of the Development Board, Chancellor's Council executive committee and the Jack Blanton Museum Council. Additionally, along with his wife, Suzan, Mr. Glickman established a Plan II Lectureship in Liberal Arts, endowed a Texas Excellence Award for Outstanding Elementary School teachers, established a Chair in Business and Professional Ethics at the University of Texas School of Law and helped fund the Larry Faulkner President's Excellence Endowed Trust. Mr. Glickman is the Managing Partner of Glickman & Hughes, LLP in Houston, Texas. In March of 2004, he was awarded the Leon Jaworski Award, which honors a Houston lawyer for outstanding community service, by the Houston Bar Association Auxiliary.
