Plan II Honors Commencement Speaker:
Aurora Lora, Plan II Honors and Pyschology, May 2000. Outstanding Young Texas Ex Award 2009
Aurora Lora came to UT Austin as valedictorian of an El Paso high school. She was awarded a Dedman Scholarship and graduated, with majors in Plan II and Honors Psychology as one of the Dean's Distinguished Graduates in the College of Liberal Arts. She received her Master of Education from St. Thomas University in Houston.
She spent four years through the Teach for America program as a fourth-grade teacher at Ryan Elementary School in the Houston Independent School District. While at Ryan Elementary, she helped her students make significant academic gains and wrote a $40,000 grant to start an after-school program for fourth and fifth graders. She was named “Teacher of the Year” and became the subject of a 100-page book written by Teach for America that is now used as a training tool.
She then completed her doctoral coursework and superintendent internship through the Urban Superintendent’s Program at Harvard University. Dr. Lora is the founder and administrator of the Harriet Tubman Leadership Academy for Young Women, a public all-girls middle and high school in Portland that opened in September 2007.

Ticket information for Plan II Honors Convocation:
Graduating Plan II Honors graduating seniors do NOT need a ticket for the Plan II Honors Graduation Convocation.
All other guests must have a ticket to enter the Hogg Memorial Auditorium. Disregard ''balcony'' or ''orchestra'' designation on tickets: THERE IS NO RESERVED GUEST SEATING. Seating is ''first-come, first-seated.''
Beginning on MONDAY, APRIL 23, each graduating senior may pick up SIX (6) tickets for family and guests, from MONDAY, APRIL 23 THROUGH FRIDAY, MAY 4, at the Plan II Honors Program office front desk.
Each senior will be asked to sign for the number of tickets he/she picks up.
Tickets will NOT be reserved for seniors who do not pick up tickets on or before the May 4, 2012 deadline.
Because we will not have more tickets than available seats, we hope seniors will NOT pick up more tickets than they expect to use. Please do NO pick up six tickets if you know you will only have 3, 4 or 5 guests!
On Monday, MAY 7 through May 11, all remaining Plan II Honors Graduation Convocation tickets will be released on a ''first-come, first-served'' basis to those seniors who expect more than 6 guests. If you show up and tickets are available, you can get them. If you show up late and they are gone....that’s that.
