Travel and Attractions

Reaching Austin

Austin-Bergstrom International Airport, served by eleven airlines, is a 20-minute car or bus ride from the conference hotel. Numerous taxicab and car rental agencies are available via the airport’s Web site. The Capital Metro Flyer offers express bus service (current fare $1, one-way) from the airport to 6th and Brazos six blocks from the hotel.

Hotel parking fees will be waived for conference attendees.

International visitors may find helpful information via the U.S. State Department Web site.

Once downtown, many local attractions are easily accessed on foot: the Town Lake Hike and Bike Trail, a 10-mile loop for biking, walking, and jogging, runs past the hotel along the lake. Canoes and kayaks may be rented at Zilker Park, on the lake’s south side. The Congress Avenue Bridge, home to the world’s largest urban bat colony and the scene of spectacular bat flights every evening at sunset, is visible from the hotel deck. Nightlife on 6th Street is just blocks away.

A quick walk south across the river brings you to the SoCo district, featuring restaurants, coffee bars, nightclubs, and shopping.

Austin’s Capital Metro Transit service also provides FREE downtown transportation on the 'Dillo trollies. Red and Gold 'Dillo routes, stopping half a block from the conference hotel, travel through downtown to the University of Texas.

Capital Metro provides additional bus service throughout Austin for a $.50 fare ($1.00 with transfer).

More information on local events can be found at the Austin Visitors’ Center Web site and in the weekly Austin Chronicle.
