In 2005, the WAC Initiative began a formal assessment of the Substantial Writing Component in the College of Liberal Arts survey of college alumni since 1988 sought to learn whether the minimum SWC requirements for UT-Austin undergraduates were sufficient to improve COLA students' writing and prepare them for the work they do once they leave the University.
