UT Children's Shakespeare Festival
Wed, May 12, 2010 • 11:00 AM - 12:30 PM • B. Iden Payne Theatre, UT Campus
This May, students in grades 3-8 from all across Central Texas will take the stage at the UT Children's Shakespeare Festival. This annual day of Shakespearean performance is a chance for Shakespeare at Winedale Outreach students to present their hard work to their parents and peers. It is an exciting end to a year's worth of study, with onstage costumed performance for an audience.
The UT Children's Shakespeare Festival will be held: May 12 and 14, 11am-1:00pm at B. Iden Payne Theatre on the UT Campus.
UT Children's Shakespeare Festival is sponsored by the Shakespeare at Winedale Outreach program.
Shakespeare at Winedale Outreach, housed in the College of Liberal Arts at the University of Texas, is a Language Arts enrichment program that provides opportunities for meaningful learning and academic excellence for Texas schoolchildren in grades K-12, with a special focus on both emerging and advanced readers in grades 3 through 8, and on students in low-income communities.
Through our many programs, our aim is to empower young students by giving them the chance to make Shakespeare their own through study, memorization, interpretation and group performance. By doing this, we hope to foster in young people an early appreciation of poetic and heightened language; to give them a strengthened sense of self-confidence when speaking in front of others; and to provide a head start on a sometimes-daunting component of high school and university curriculum.
