Camp Shakespeare's 11th Season

Young Shakespeareans ages 11-16 will explore Love’s Labour’s Lost and Hamlet.
Camp Shakespeare will be celebrating its 11th anniversary with public performances of two of Shakespeare’s plays, Loves Labour’s Lost , Shakespeare’s brilliant comedy of the trials of pursuing love, and the famous Tragedie of Hamlet. Public performances for Session 1 (Love’sLabour’s Lost) will be Thursday, June 20, at 3:30pm the Crystal Theater in Gonzales; Friday, June 21, at 7pm at Henkel Hall in Round Top; and Saturday, June 22, at 1pm at the Winedale Theater Barn. Session 2 (Hamlet): Thursday, July 11, at 3:30pm in Gonzales; Friday, July 12, at 7pm in Round Top; and Saturday, at at 1pm at Winedale. Admission to all performances is $5.00. Children under 12 will be admitted free of charge.
During each of the two sessions, campers follow a rigorous schedule of daily activity, beginning the day at 5:30 a.m. with physical and verbal exercise before breakfast. During morning and afternoon periods, campers explore through performance the language, characterization, and conflict of the plays. Their days winds down with highly imaginative improvisations after supper, concluding finally with sessions on evaluation and journal writing before retiring at 9:15 p.m.
The Camp Shakespeare site is Briarfield B & B, hosted by Mary Stanhope and Roland Nestor. Camp Director is Jim (Doc) Ayres, Founding Director of Shakespeare at Winedale and Professor Emeritus of The University of Texas at Austin.
