Camp Shakespeare presents Twelfth Night at Winedale
Sat, July 12, 2014 • 1:00 PM • Winedale Theater Barn - Near Round Top, Texas
With the first University of Texas Camp Shakespearean Comedy of Errors session behind him, Professor Emeritus Jim (Doc) Ayres is now turning his attention to another story of twins separated by shipwreck, Shakespeare’s most musical comedy, Twelfth Night; or, What You Will, the second part of this summer’s “twin bill.”
Set in the world of Illyria, the play explores in excess the unrequited love of some seven characters with attendant complications caused by one of them --a woman, Viola (originally played by a man), disguised as a man who is pursued by a woman, the Countess Olivia, while falling in love with a man, the Duke of Illyria. Toss in the drunken antics of Sir Toby Belch and the wit and song of Feste, the Fool, and Malvolio’s puritanical objections to any sort of revelry, and you have the stuff of both comical delight and bitter-sweetness, of “wind and rain.”
Twelfth Night will be performed on Saturday, July 12, at 1:00 p.m., at the Theater Barn at Winedale. Tickets are $5.
