S@W Alumni Gather to Perform and Reminisce

Posted: February 14, 2010

We are so excited to be celebrating our anniversary this summer!  Shakespeare at Winedale has a rich history with 40 years of learning Shakespeare through performance.  We hope to see lots of former students, from all decades of Shakespeare at Winedale, out to help us celebrate. For more information about reunion events, contact Liz Fisher at lfisher@mail.utexas.edu.

To help us fill out the summer with tales from yesteryear, we are looking for photographs and stories from your summer at Winedale. We are also looking for cast lists from all classes before 1980; Summer '81, '82, '84, '85 and '86; Spring Classes from the '80s and '90, '91 and '92.  Please send these to Angela Barratt, Program Assistant, at abarratt@mail.utexas.edu.

Every Class, Every Play

This summer, we will be going on an exciting journey through the whole canon! We're looking for alumni, representing every class if possible, to prepare a scene from all of Shakespeare's plays. We'll do two scenes before each matinee and three scenes before each Saturday and Sunday performance.  The scenes will start a half-hour before each performance, as a preshow.  No more than eight minutes per scene. First come, first served, so don't delay, email Liz your choice today (lfisher@mail.utexas.edu).

Week 4

Sat, Aug 7: before the matinee: King Lear (claimed); Antony and Cleopatra (claimed)

before the evening show: Coriolanus (claimed); Timon of Athens (claimed); Pericles (claimed)

Sun, Aug 8: before the matinee: Cymbeline (claimed); The Winter's Tale (claimed)

before the evening show: The Tempest (claimed); Henry VIII (claimed); The Two Noble Kinsmen (claimed)

Gala

We’ve revamped this year's gala to celebrate 40 years of Winedale past and all the years to come.  The gala will take place Saturday, July 17 at 7:00pm.  The night of merrymaking includes food, special performances by alumni and current students, a silent auction, and sensational surprises.

Tickets are available now, online or by phone (512-471-4726).

Gala Tickets are $100, with a special alumni price of $75. This year, you may also participate at a Sponsor, Patron, or Underwriter level. Sponsorship (at any of these levels) entitles you to bring a party of up to 10 people.

Contact Liz Fisher with  questions.

Decade Celebrations and Reunion Brunches

This year, we are having reunion weekends for each decade of Shakespeare at Winedale.  We will recognize alumni at the performances, so come catch up with your fellow students.  Each decade will have a special Reunion Brunch on Sunday at noon.  Come for coffee and kolaches with other former students before catching a matinee performance. Please RSVP to Liz if you plan on attending the Brunch.

Reunion Play

As the summer draws to a close, former students will gather to complete the work of an entire summer in a week. This year's reunion performance will be a collection of scenes performed by former students.

Doc has already selected the class, but we hope you will join us on Sat, Aug 14 at 2:00pm, to watch this exciting performance and applaud their hard work.  Tickets for the reunion performance are $20 for adults and $10 for under age 18.  They are available online now: Reunion Tickets.
